Camera shots and techniques notes

Notetaking on Camera Techniques

INTERVIEWING:
• What seven items should you bring with you when you are shooting an interview?
(Clocks Tick Tock Making Heads Pound Loudly)
     -Camera
     -Tape
     -Tripod (NO TRIPOD=BAD)
     -Microhone (don't give the interviewee the mic.)
       *hang loose
     -Headphones
     -Power Soarce
       * AC adapter or Battery
     -Light Soarce (light should always be behind the camera. never shoot into a window because it causes a sillohuette.)
       * camera light, floor light, natural light

• Shooting into a light source = bad
 Button to adjust =


• You always want the light behind the camera.


• On what object should you focus the camera?
      - the thing in which you are trying to focus on.


• No tripod= BAD


• Date and Time= if you get the date and time on your camera, its permantly stampd on there. only use for security cameras. otherwise, never.


• SP/EP
-sp: stanard play
      * always shoot in sp
-ep: extended play
      *lower quality


• Camera shoots in standard mode.

• Pre-Roll- 2 to 3 seconds before you shoot anything for editing purposes


• Post-Roll- 2 to 3 seconds after you shoot anything for editing purposes


CAMERA SHOTS:

***BACKGROUND:
 has depth, not plain.
 interview at least 6 to 8 from the wall.
 intervieweee is shot, not a poster

• Interview Shot= 2 Eyes and 1 Ear


1 Shot= middle of chest to just above the head.


• 1 Shot with graphic= middle of chest to to of head off center to fit a graphic


• 2 Shot= interviewing 2 people at the same time. medium shot


• Establishing Shot

• CU- close up


• MS- medium shot


• LS- long shot


• ECU- extreme close up

• Wide-Medium-Tight


• Rule of thirds- pay attention to whats on the lines

• Shoot Matched Action


• Get Sequences



CAMERA MOVEMENTS:
• Tilt- up and down movement-must be a reason for moving the camera-use sparingly


• Pan- left and right movement-to follow action- use sparingly-never pan fast *pan and hold*


• Zoom- magnifying your image, magnifys movement- always be as close as you can to your subject

• Nat Sound-
